Hi everybody!!!

Does anybody know if, here in Buenos Aires, there are institutes that teach medical english??

Because if you can't learn it at the university, where do you go?

From my point of view, it's important to be able to comunicate in english, but we also need a tecnical english...

what do you know / think?

If you have a good base, all yo ureally need to do is read the medical literature in English. Then it just... occurs naturally.

Isn´t there a course of technical english here in UBA? I think it is for advanced students (those who are doing the UDH).

Yes there is. I`ve done it. The teacher Ana is great and although she`s not a physician, she knows a lot abuot english in medicine.

I enjoyed the course a lot, but It's quite short to learn everything attending only once a week for four months.

The programme of the course includes: Comunicating, clinical history, medical examination, how te read/write a paper, letter to referral letters (how to send patiens to the specialist), etc.

The book you'll use is "English in medicine" donde by Cambridge.

the fact is that I don't know if I am going to study at the UBA , that's why I wanted to know about any other institute... jaja sorry I forgot to say that I'm in my 5th year of secondary school

Many universities have english as a subject that`s part of the curricula.

As Nacho said, there are some universities that have medical english, and one of those would be Barceló. However I have to advise you that the level of english that they teach sucks, BIG TIME, and that I`d recomend to learn english by yourself and then read papers as Tincho said. If you have the chance to do it, attending to Conferences or Congresses that are english-spoken will help a lot aswell.

Hi! You don´t need to be a Uba student to take the medical english course. The only difference is that you have to pay some money (not much). Anyways, I agree with the guy who said that if u know english u can read medical stuff and it comes naturally....

If you aren´t an UBA´s student, you must pay.

I wanted the certificate, to add a bit more clout to my CV, that's all. Maybe I should just go and do the exam and get certified.

that´s a good idea, i think... do you´ve your FCE? think it´s enough to do the exam

I never took any English language examinations. The closest I have is an IB diploma with English literature as part of the program.

maybe you don´t need your FCE to do the exam and approve it... however, it can´t be so long...

If you have to be in fifth year in order to take the course, I have to measure it in years...
It's easier just to take the exam and get the certificate...
